Hey, thanks a bunch for the support. To answer your questions:
I use Blender (Open source) for my 3D Stuff (along with some other open source rendering engines) and Photoshop for the post processing. But really, the GIMP (another open source software) can do just as good. So, if you want to check them out, do so, Blender is free but a pretty advanced programme already - and getting better and better.
And no, you really don't need to be good at math or something. It helps to to be somewhat...interested in technical details and have some spatial understanding but other than that. Just try it.

You have some extremely detailed artworks here. I'm quite impressed, I do love details myself. They are what makes a good picture outstanding. Keep at it! :)
